Saturday 18th February – Homerton vs Jesus

FRISBEE IS BACK! The long awaited return of flying discs arrived, with the disappearance of the white stuff (the snow..).

The snow may have been gone but when the Homertonians arrived at Parker's Piece, the weather wasn't looking great. The pre-match warm-ups were then met with torrential rain and blustery winds that sent the discs everywhere but to their target. By the start of the match however, the rain and wind had seemed to ease up to witness what turned out to be a great match.

Despite lacking their usual captain, Homerton started strongly against the opposition, using tight cupping and quick cuts. This results in Homerton pulling ahead to 4-0. From this point, Jesus fought back breaking our cup much more often and scoring twice to bring themselves very much back in the game. These were accomplished by some terrific catches, dives and effective long throws.

The unsettled weather meant that there were several wayward throws and dropped catches from both teams, which meant both teams adopted a short-ranged game with quick passes and a lot of crowding in the end zones. Many point-scoring throws were blocked by each team but eventually Homerton found their stride once more and scored some great points.

Half-time was reached, 1 minute before cap, at 7-2 with the agreement that the match would end at 8 points. The final point was a great struggle between both teams with the disc entering both end-zones in the point. However Homerton managed to seize victory from a great Jesus defence.

Everyone would have to agree that this was a great match, despite the awful conditions and I'm sure that the match will be even better later in the year when the weather improves!!

Monday 6 February 2012

You say "Snow", we say "SNOW FRISBEE!!"

How could we possibly resist?

Things started off relatively normal, with a few passes (and snowballs) on West House lawn. However this was quickly followed by more snow fights, epic layouts and the new sport that is "Contact Frisbee".

The rules are simple, there are no REAL rules. Rugby with a Frisbee... Take down the opposition, grab the disc and RUN!

Saturday 4th February – Homerton vs HomeGrown

Parker's Piece saw the meeting of a huge Homerton turn-out and a 6-man HomeGrown team, but the Homertonians knew that they were still a force to be reckoned with. The game begun with HomeGrown on the offence and they quickly took advantage and pulled ahead, proving this was going to be no easy match. The next point, with Homerton receiving the disc meant that HomeGrown were down to only 5 players, to the Homerton 7. Homerton then managed to equalise quickly, and bring the opposition back into attack.

A regular pattern seemed to emerge in the point scoring, with a 6-man HomeGrown bypassing the Homerton defence followed by a full Homerton team swamping a 5 player opposition. At 5-5, both teams realised that a break in the scoring was going to be key to the winning of this match and both sides had great attempt at doing so. This crucial point saw great throws and defending from both teams until HomeGrown's speedy passing meant the Homerton cup was beaten and the break was scored.

Half time was reached at 7-5, and with the clock at 45 minutes, the game was open for the taking for both teams. A revitalised Homerton team went back out for the remainder of the game with an effective cup and many chances to break back to draw the score level, but HomeGrown's skill and speed proved to much with the cap being reached at 9-11.

Every match against HomeGrown proves to be an epic one and this was no exception. With the scoreline also getting closer and closer every match, they had better watch out for the Homerton team next time we meet!
