Saturday 21st January - Homerton vs Downing Lions

Proudly sporting our epic new shirts, the team faced Downing Lions for the first match of Lent term. The match began with Downing Lions throwing off to the Homerton line. Lions scored quickly taking advantage of a dropped catch by Homerton. Driving rain and fierce winds made long hooks difficult, not helped by the excellent “clamming” defence employed by the Lions.

Despite battling hard, and Anna's motivational skills with the megaphone, the Lions caught a crucial break point. The match saw several missed chances from Homerton in the end zones, which Downing used to their advantage to push further forward. Several long points resulted in half time at 7-2 being called after the cap, with Downing now only needing 1 point to seal the game.

The arrival of Marvin onto the pitch after half time brought needed dynamics to the Homerton team with a spectacular diving “planetary-D”. On winning this point, both teams began to think about a typical Homerton comeback. However the Lions fought back hard against the newly-inspired Homertonians to win the final point and the match.

Thanks to Downing Lions for such a great game to start the new term and we wish them the best of luck in their following games.
