Saturday 28th January - Homerton vs Corpus Christi

After a tough match in week one, Homerton headed to the Corpus grounds to face their second match of the season. Following last week's defeat, with Downing Lions “clamming” the Homerton attackers, the team were equipped with the skills and knowledge to use the technique themselves.

From the start it was apparent it would be a tough match for both sides, with Homerton's new defence facing the impressive speed and agility of the Corpus team. Points were regularly won by both sides, spotting the weakness in the opposition's positions and fatigue. Both teams also utilised great long throws to their deep players to catch some great points.

At half time it was 7-4 to Homerton with only 4 and a half minutes left until a 2 point cap. Corpus wanted a comeback and Homerton would have to fight to prevent it. A cap at 10 was signalled by a catch in the end zone for Homerton, but Corpus responded well to this to pull the game back within their grasp.

Injury worries crept in for the Homertonians, when Tom suffered a knock and so the team had to press on with the captain shouting from the sideline (and rummaging for bananas). At 9-7 the Homertonians only needed one more point which, came from a huge throw from the captain, through Corpus' excellent defending, and into the hands of Peachy.

Thanks to Corpus for a great first meet this year, and we look forward to playing them later on in the season.

Homegrown next week!!
